Stephen Colbert skewers 2020 Democratic field: 'Too many middle-aged generic white guys, man!'

Stephen Colbert skewered the field of 2020 Democratic hopefuls as a bunch of “middle-aged generic white guys” in a parody episode of “Scooby-Doo” Tuesday night.

Shortly after CNN wrapped up the first of two Democratic primary debates this week, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” took the crowded field to task over its lack of diversity by having the “Scooby-Doo” gang solve the mystery of which candidate was hiding beneath the ghost costume.

In “The Kooky Case of the Democratic Debate,” the gang repeatedly tries — and fails — to identify the mystery candidate.

“Is it John Delaney?”

“I think it’s Jay Inslee!”

“Are you sure that’s not John Hickenlooper?”

“It could be Tim Ryan.”

Finally, Shaggy lands the the line: “There’s like too many middle-aged generic white guys, man!”

The skit aired just before Mr. Colbert’s opening monologue, where he slammed moderate Democratic candidates like former Maryland Rep. John Delaney for repeating “Republican talking points” during Tuesday’s debate.

“It’s hard to sum up what happened tonight,” the late-night host said. “But most of it was a bunch of guys with no chance to win the Democratic nomination yelling Republican talking points at the people who can. It was like watching the seven dwarves offering Snow White a poison apple.”
