High school sports roundup (April 25)



Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Thursday, April 25.

Boys lacrosse

Towson 16, Franklin 7: Hudson Arrup totaled seven points on four goals and three assists to pace the Generals. Alex Tyler matched him with four goals and also handed out two assists. Ansen Park finished with six points, evenly split between three goals and three assists. Also for Towson, Connor Parks scored twice and Zach Hochrein, Luke Richardson and Fisher Putnam also scored.

Girls lacrosse

Reservoir 18, Wilde Lake 8: Bailey Ko led the Gators (8-4, 5-2 Howard County) with a season-high seven goals, also adding an assist. Both Paige Malwitz and Taylor Sung had hat tricks, adding three and two assists, respectively.

South Carroll 21, Smithsburg 0: Leah Miller had five goals and two assists and Ava Krantz had five assists to lead the host Cavaliers over the Leopards. Other top scorers were Unique Anthony (3 goals), Addie Fowble (2 goals, 1 assist) and Kaia Wolfe (2 goals, 1 assist).

Catonsville 18, Hereford 17: Kate Roberson (5 goals, 1 assist), Casey Fisher (4 goals, 2 assists) and Maggie Kubofcik (3 goals) led the visiting Comets over the Bulls. Hereford’s Lindsey Moneymaker scored a game-high six goals and had one assist and Maya Antonakas had four goals.

Baseball

Key School 13, Sts. Peter & Paul  0: Winning pitcher Lunt Woodward went four innings and struck out six and the host Obezags (7-4, 6-4 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C Conference Black Division) shut out the Sabres (0-10, 0-10). Key was led by Angus Lunt-Woodward (2-for-2) with four RBI’s, Erhan Ortiz (2-for-2) and Jack Callahan had a hit.

St. Mary’s 6, Severn 0: Winning pitcher Brian Sands pitched a complete game two-hitter and struck out nine and the host Saints (12-4, 9-2 MIAA B Conference Red Division) shut out the Admirals (9-6, 8-4). St. Mary’s was led by Nick Hulme (2-for-3) with a double and an RBI and Dominic Hicks (3-for-4) with three RBI’s.

Wilde Lake 2, Centennial 0: The Wildecats (2-11, 2-10) closed out a big win over the Eagles as James Board pitched a complete game shutout, striking out four. For Centennial (9-3), Jack Stachera had two hits.

River Hill 6, Howard 1: The Hawks (10-4, 10-3 Howard County) won their fourth game in a row as Thomas Jayne pitched six innings and struck out six. Henry Zatkowski had a triple, double and three RBIs, while Ryan Walsh had two RBIs.

Softball

Centennial 21, Wilde Lake 4: The Eagles (9-4) won their fifth game in a row led by Maddie Hall who went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Centennial scored eight runs in the second to break the game open. Freshman pitcher Madeline Salter earned the win in the circle. For Wilde Lake (1-12, 1-11), Olivia Bixler had two hits.

Boys tennis

Marriotts Ridge 5, Mt. Hebron 0: The Mustangs boys (10-0) remained undefeated. Mukundh Boopathi and Rafa Feldman each won their singles matches in dominant fashion 8-0 and 8-1, respectively. The doubles pairings of Tyler Wang and Jerry He, Felipe Arantes Gabriel and Tobi Ijiyemi and Sam Lim and David Liu each won.

Girls tennis

Marriotts Ridge 3, Mt. Hebron 2: The Mustangs girls (8-2) earned the tight win. Erika Kang won 8-4 in No. 2 singles. The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings of Maria Ottman and Haeli Shah, Sophia Feldman and Sana Huda each won. For Mt. Hebron, Riya Rai won 8-4 at No. 1 singles, while Nithya Chilukuri and Krithi Bengal won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
