The Seattle Kraken rallied from a three-goal deficit in their first NHL game as a franchise, but Chandler Stephenson’s third-period goal proved to be the game winner in a 4-3 victory for the Vegas Golden Knights on opening night Tuesday.
The Golden Knights put the Kraken in a 2-0 hole in the first 6 1/2 minutes of the first period. After going down 3-0 via a Max Pacioretty goal in the second period, the Kraken outshot the Golden Knights 14-7 in the final 13 minutes of the second. Ryan Donato scored Seattle’s first-ever goal 11:32 into the second period, followed by a Jared McCann goal less than two minutes later.
Morgan Geekie tied the game 3-3 with a goal 7:58 into the third period, but Stephenson guided a pass into the net less than two minutes later to help the Golden Knights retake the lead for good.
Jonathan Marchessault had a goal, Pacioretty had two goals and an assist, and Robin Lehner had 31 saves for the Golden Knights.
