Watch Jasmin Savoy Brown’s Super Queer New Music Video

Jasmin Savoy Brown is taking her career to new heights.

On Friday, the Yellowjackets and The Leftovers actress released the new music video for her first single as a singer-songwriter. Titled “Orange Wine,” the tune is a mellow, groovy, and above all, sensual story about a date Brown never wanted to end — but in the end, she has to settle for the memory of a kiss. The longing is real.

Dedicated to “the dancer in Los Feliz,” Brown’s video features a diverse array of dancers working poles around her as Brown plunks out a throbbing, fuzzy beat on her Gibson. But while the start of video is laid-back and casual, as the dancers warm up and Brown chills in an undershirt and ripped jeans, the second verse takes a more overtly sexual tone; suddenly, the dancers are clad in harnesses and stiletto heels, the lights turn an appropriately (and intentionally) bisexual blue and purple, and Brown herself sports a leather coat/pants ensemble, pasties, and a harness of her own.

The video concept was developed with director Violett Beane, Brown’s friend from their Leftovers days, whose own pole dancing classes prompted Brown’s imagination to run wild. “It’s sexy through a gaze we’re less familiar with — the gaze of three women: myself, Violett, and Allie Schultz, our brilliant DP,” Brown told Entertainment Weekly, explaining the dreamlike “‘could have been’” feeling that inspired the song.

Brown’s already had an incredible start to 2022, with two big hits on her hands — Yellowjackets and her prominent role in the new Scream film. “Orange Wine” not only proves that Brown is a multi-talented performer, but it’s got us eagerly anticipating the release of her full debut EP, East LA, later this year.
