Top 100 sports movies: Is (insert title here) a sports movie?


When we were coming up with the top 100 sports movies, we were tasked with nominating certain films before voting on them. It was a fun exercise, and I loved seeing the creativity and knowledge of my co-workers. For whatever reason, “Point Break,” the 1991 action movie starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Gary Busey and Lori Petty — also directed by future Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow — came to mind.

Why? It’s not a sports movie in the traditional sense, but there are scenes with surfing — lots of them. There’s a skydiving scene. Not to mention one of the most famous beach football games in movie history.
