After watching Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl torch the Senators the night before, Dave Tippett didn’t think twice. He had no interest in separating his superstars Thursday, even without the services of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to fill the No. 2 centre slot.
“Did you watch the game last night?” he said when asked for his reasoning, clearly referring to matching four-point outings from McDavid and Draisaitl.
Fair enough. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — I suppose.
Gaetan Haas returned to the lineup to take Nugent-Hopkins’ spot between Dominik Kahun and Kailer Yamamoto in the 3-1 win, a victory that gave the Oilers a nine-game season series sweep of the Senators.
