Summer Front Colt Tops OBS Winter Mixed Sale’s Final Session


Hip No. 633, a yearling son of Summer Front consigned by Select Sales, agent, went to Renee Dailey / Dailey Bloodstock LLC for $92,000 to top the open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2020 Winter Mixed Sale.

The bay colt is out of Diva Star, by Cherokee Run, a half sister to graded stakes placed stakes winner Captain Serious.

Hip No. 615, a yearling son of El Deal consigned by Kim Harrison (Top Speed Farm), agent, was sold to Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt for $70,000. The chestnut colt is out of stakes winner Coteau Kitten, by Tale of the Cat.

Hip No. 515, a yearling bay colt by Adios Charlie, went to K.O.I.D. Co., Ltd. for $40,000. Consigned by Bobby Jones Equine LLC, agent, he’s out of Stolen Purse, by Artax, a half sister to stakes winner Lord Beer.

My Purple Haze Stables, Chris Englehart agent, went to $40,000 for Hip No. 685, a yearling by War Dancer consigned by Sue Vacek, agent. The bay colt, a half brother to stakes winner Bust Another, is out of I Drink Alone, by Intidab.

W. P. Stiritz paid $33,000 for Hip No. 543, a yearling daughter of Khozan consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock Services, Inc. (Brent & Crystal Fernung), agent. The bay filly is out of Wave Bye Bye, by Congrats, a half sister to graded stakes winners Sailor’s Cap.

For the open session, 200 horses sold for a total of $1,649,900 compared with 229 horses bringing $1,488,800 in 2019. The average price was $8,250 compared with $6,501 last year, while the median price was $5,000 compared with $4,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 24.5 percent; it was 14.9 percent in 2019.

For the consignor preferred session, 89 horses sold for a total of $1,941,000 compared with 106 horses grossing $1,777,100 in 2019. The average price was $21,809, up 30 percent compared with $16,765 a year ago, while the median price was $12,000, identical from last year’s figure. The buyback percentage was 35 percent; it was 26.9 percent last year.

For the horses of racing age session, 70 horses grossed $1,366,900 compared with 64 selling for a total of $1,194,000 in 2019. The average was $19,527, up 4.7 percent from $18,656 a year ago, while the median price was $11,000, up 22.2 percent compared to $9,000 last year. The buyback percentage was 11.4 percent; it was 15.8 percent in 2019.

For the entire Winter Mixed Sale, 359 horses sold for a total of $4,957,800, compared to 399 horses bringing $4,459,900 last year. The average was $13,810, up 23.5 percent from $11,178 in 2019 while the median price was $7,000, compared with $6,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 25.4 percent; it was 18.6 percent in 2019.

The overall sale topper was Hip No. 4, a son of Union Rags consigned by Pelican State Thoroughbreds, agent, sold to Blue Sky Stables for $165,000 to top the consignor preferred session.
