Cape Town – South African golfer Brandon Stone believes that the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek is the holy grail of golf.

Stone is among the 76 South Africans teeing off in the opening event of the 2019/20 European Tour season in Malelane.

The 26-year-old has fond memories of Leopard Creek, as he cruised to a win here in 2017.

“It’s just a special place, I’ve referred to it a few times as the holy grail of golf,” Stone told the European Tour.

“It’s one of the week’s you always look forward to… For me, this (tournament) is always on the schedule the first time it comes out and having the privilege to come year in and year out is fantastic.

“It’s going to be a fantastic year whether you play badly, it’s going to be fun.”

2019 has been a year of struggle for the South African as he has played 22 events and failed to make the cut on 13 occasions.

Despite being unsuccessful in the winners’ circle, Stone ended his 2018/19 season with a tie for second at the Portugal Masters last month.

Stone revealed that he is eager to get some good finishes before the New Year.

“I feel great, I’ve had a few weeks off to recharge the batteries. Hoping to get a couple good results before Christmas,” said Stone.

Stone tees off in the opening round on Thursday alongside Italian Edoardo Molinari and Swede’s Alexander Bjork at 12:30.
