Rafael Nadal 'ready' to overtake Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic at Australian Open

Rafael Nadal has once again proved he is a special tennis player and is ready to overtake Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the most successful male player of all time, according to two-time French Open finalist Alex Corretja. Nadal will play Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Australian Open on Sunday after a four-set victory over Matteo Berrettini in the semi-final clash on Friday.

Nadal is currently tied with Federer and Djokovic on a men’s record 20 Grand Slam singles titles each.

No male player has won more major tournaments than the trio.

Nadal has had his injury problems since last year’s French Open and he missed both Wimbledon and the US Open because of a foot issue.

Corretja was delighted to see his countryman make it into the final in Melbourne.

And the pundit says Nadal showed how he is a unique player compared to his rivals.

“I am very emotional, because we all know what Rafa brings to tennis, to our sport, to our country – Spain – and everything he transmits,” Corretja told Eurosport.

“He has given us so much, of course everyone was hoping Rafa could start the season well to see how he felt on his foot and we wondered if he would be able to move well, to step into the court and push hard, push strong and move with the intensity we are used to seeing with him.

“After two or three rounds we felt he was getting ready but it was very difficult to predict how far he would go.
