NBA 75: At No. 54, Bob McAdoo’s intriguing basketball odyssey took him all over the league and the world

Welcome to the NBA 75, The Athletic’s countdown of the 75 best players in NBA history, in honor of the league’s diamond anniversary. From Nov. 1 through Feb. 18, we’ll unveil a new player on the list every weekday except for Dec. 27-31, culminating with the man picked by a panel of The Athletic NBA staff members as the greatest of all time.

Bob McAdoo had no idea former NBA player Al Harrington is in the cannabis business with his Viola brand, but a recent take from Harrington on McAdoo could lead to only one question:

Was Harrington getting high on his supply?

McAdoo was sent audio from Harrington discussing the NBA’s 75th Anniversary team with former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas and NBA Twitter superstar and television writer Josiah Johnson as part of Arenas’ podcast.

Johnson presented the former NBA players with a game called “Who’s Ass You Bustin?” The premise was simple. Johnson gave each players from the anniversary team, and they had to say whether they’d be able to give that player buckets — basically a party game minus drinks for hoopers or barbershop banter for ballers.

Harrington’s first player was McAdoo.

“So obviously, I’ll bust his ass, but big respect to Bob McAdoo,” Harrington said. “I don’t want to disrespect the OG or nothing like that.”

Of course, Harrington would say that.
