“Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski said it’s “sickening” the way baseball fans taunted the president Sunday with “lock him up” chants during Game 5 of the World Series in Washington.
At the Washington Nationals’ game against the Houston Astros, where Mr. Trump and first lady Melania Trump were in attendance, some fans booed and chanted “lock him up,” a reference to the president’s 2016 campaign rally chant against then-rival Hillary Clinton.
On Monday, MSNBC’s Mr. Scarborough and Ms. Brzezinski said the chant is “un-American” no matter who it’s used on.
“It’s un-American,” Mr. Scarborough said. “It started with Donald Trump. In fact, he’s made it a centerpiece of his campaign rallies.”
“We find it sickening when it happens at his rallies,” Ms. Brzezinski added. “I find it kind of sickening to watch people leering at the president.”
“Of course it’s sickening,” Mr. Scarborough continued. “We are Americans, and we do not do that. We do not want the world hearing us chant, ‘Lock him up,’ to this president or to any president. Let’s hope, as we move forward, maybe this is one less fascist tactic he and his supporters use during chants — that you are going to actually imprison your political opponent. So, let’s leave that behind.”
“Let’s hope he gets it,” Ms. Brzezinski added.
The hosts’ comments sparked a wave of criticism and the hashtag #SorryJoe in defense of the protesters at Sunday’s game.
My Two Cents: We all agree the Presidency used to be an INSTITUTION. No longer. Donald Trump has defiled the office. Citizens are responding to who they see occupying the office. #LockHimUp is fair game for one who is so untruthful, racist, unstable & likely criminal. #SorryJoe

The misrule, cruelty and infantilism of this administration is such that some sense of an enduring ethos is actually redeemed when we the people openly express our contempt. Dissent is the most American thing there is — and to get clean, we need as much as there is on display. https://t.co/hmp4JHr8nD
