Juvenile Standout Independence Hall No Longer Targeting Remsen

Independence Hall and Jose Ortiz after the Constitution colt won the Nashua by 12 1/4 lengths

Posting a 101 Beyer Speed Figure in his 12 1/4-length victory in the G3 Nashua Stakes earlier this month, 2-year-old Independence Hall was initially under consideration for the G2 Remsen Stakes on Dec. 7. Instead, trainer Michael Trombetta told horseracingnation.com that the son of Constitution will race again before his stable ships south for the winter, but not in the Remsen.

“When they run that fast, you worry about a regression, which happens to many of them,” Trombetta said. “The horse is doing great, but we just want to give him a little space if we can now that he has two races under his belt. I’m not 100% sure what the next start will be, to be honest.”

After the Remsen, the next Kentucky Derby prep race in New York is the Jerome on Jan. 1, which offers 10 Derby points to the winner.
