Jayson Tatum fulfills promise to Deuce, drops Celtics record 60 in historic comeback

Jayson Tatum remembered how hard his father, Justin, was on him.

Justin had played basketball overseas when he was young as Jayson’s mother, Brandy, raised him in St. Louis. When Justin came back home and became a coach, he was always pushing his son to fight through adversity, to recognize his size and talent and work even harder in response.

It even came at the expense of their relationship.

“My dad was the one who kind of, in a way, introduced me to basketball. But his tactics were extreme at some times,” Tatum said. “He for sure pushed me when I was younger and we had some rocky times, just kind of in our relationship, because of how hard he pushed me.”

Tatum’s career has been defined by his work ethic.
