The Boston Celtics were able to stave off elimination from the Eastern Conference Finals in Game 5, but they couldn’t do the same in Game 6. Boston suffered a 125-113 loss to the Miami Heat on Sunday night, and playoff elimination is becoming a bit too common for Jayson Tatum.
Boston fell one win shy of the NBA Finals in Tatum’s rookie season, and with the Celtics’ Finals hopes being squashed again this year, the budding superstar revealed how he can build off of the 2020 postseason.
“That it’s not easy,” Tatum said, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps. “It’s tough. If you want those expectations, if you want to be that guy that’s capable of doing those things, you’ve got to go through some tough things, some ups and downs, some stuff I can learn from.
“I think I can learn a lot moving forward, from this season, this series. I’ll grow from it.”
Tatum gave nearly all he could for the Celtics throughout the postseason, averaging 25.7 points, five assists and 10 rebounds per game while shooting 43.4 % from the field and 37.3 % from beyond the arc.
Although the Celtics and Tatum came up short in achieving the ultimate goal, they have plenty to be excited about with a future that’s looking brighter than ever.
