Derrick Rose unlikely to receive buyout from Pistons

Derrick Rose was not dealt by the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline, and the chances of him leaving the team via a buyout seem unlikely as well.

Brian Windhorst said on his podcast this week that there was “no chance” the Pistons would give Rose a buyout.

“No, there’s no chance,” Windhorst said regarding whether Rose would get a buyout from Detroit. “He’s under contract for next year at a good number. From what I understand, when the Lakers called the Pistons and expressed an interest in trading for Derrick Rose, the Pistons said ‘hey, we appreciate you calling, but we’re not trading him. Dwane Casey likes him. We think he’s going to be important for us next year.’ He just wasn’t available.”

In January, we heard that the Lakers and 76ers were showing interest in trading for Rose. Detroit’s asking price for the guard was said to be high.

Rose has averaged 18.0 points and 5.7 assists in 47 games this season. Detroit recently gave Markieff Morris and Reggie Jackson buyouts, which had some thinking they might do the same with Rose.
