Clippers star Kawhi Leonard out until at least next week with sore foot

The Los Angeles Clippers can’t catch a break when it comes to injuries.

Kawhi Leonard has been ruled out until at least next week with a sore right foot, according to Marc Stein of The New York Times.

Leonard was ruled out of Tuesday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers and will be re-evaluated next week.

Clippers head coach Ty Lue said the team is holding the 29-year-old out to be cautious with the postseason approaching, according to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk.

Leonard missed four straight games last week because of the foot soreness. He returned Sunday against the Minnesota Timberwolves and notched 15 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in 23 minutes.

L.A. now has three starters sidelined with injuries. Serge Ibaka has missed 20 straight games with a back injury and Patrick Beverley is out indefinitely with a fractured left hand.

Leonard has been one of the Clippers’ best players this season, averaging 25.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 51.6% from the field and 39.3% from deep.

With L.A. three games back of the top spot in the Western Conference, the Clippers will hope Leonard won’t be out too long.
