Christian singer and songwriter Nichole Nordeman on Friday tweeted an impassioned plea for people to wear masks after her aunt died following a COVID-19 diagnosis.
Nordeman, a multiple-time Dove Award winner, posted her comments on Twitter, expressing frustration at those who refuse to wear masks.
“My aunt was diagnosed w/ Covid this morning in her living facility and passed away 8 hours later, before my mom could even get there to pray through the window. 8 hours,” Nordeman tweeted. “But please tell me more about how wearing a mask is such an assault on your rights. Tell me about all your big offended feelings that the government is trying to control your life, your faith, your freedom and worship. I have run out of incredulity and disgust.

Nordeman is a past Dove Award winner of Female Vocalist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the use of masks because Covid-19 is “transmitted predominately by respiratory droplets generated when people cough, sneeze, sing, talk, or breathe,” its website says. Masks, the CDC says, are especially helpful to prevent the spread since up to 50 percent of transmissions are due to “asymptomatic or presymptomatic” individuals who have Covid-19 and do not know it because they have no symptoms.
According to an October Gallup survey, 80 percent of Americans – including 74 percent of Republicans and 87 percent of Democrats – say they would be “highly likely” to wear a mask in an indoor space such as a store or a place of work.
