Celebrate Pokemon Day With Zarude, a New Mythical Pokemon

Today is Pokemon Day, celebrating the anniversary of the original Japanese release of Pokemon Red and Green on Game Boy. So there’s been a smattering of news involving our favorite pocket monsters. Perhaps the biggest is the introduction of Zarude, a brand new mythical Pokemon.

Check out the rogue monkey for yourself!

It seems Pokemon Sword and Shield is leaning in the games as a service direction. Whether or not you think that excuses issues with the base game is up to you. But it is cool to see the Nintendo Switch game get a steady stream of extra content not even counting the upcoming paid expansion pass. That extra content includes this brand new Pokemon, a grass/dark type that looks like a Loki to Rillaboom’s Thor.

Alongside Zarude, new Pokemon are also appearing in Max Raid battles. Pokemon Home already let you transfer over the Kanto starters Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. But now those old friends are appearing as huge Dynamax Pokemon as well. Players can even take on Mewtwo, although they won’t be able to catch it. The rewards are good at least!

If, for some reason, the mobile game Pokemon Masters is your Pokemon game of choice, here’s a new trailer celebrating “six months of Sync Pairs!”

And don’t forget that in just a few days the Nintendo Switch we’ll get its next Pokemon game with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.
