Can the Warriors contend in the ‘Seven Seconds or Steph’ era?


This season, Steve Kerr aspires to a simple formula. Via text, he communicated the goal: “We want to be a top-10 defense and play very fast.”

This goal is notable because it’s not in Kerr’s nature to convey an unreachable benchmark. Like most coaches, he’s wary of inflated expectations. Last preseason, Kerr was not so bullish, privately and publicly. Sure, he would have loved a top-10 defense, but given the roster, that was only slightly more realistically attainable than 73 wins. Now, even with Klay Thompson out for another season, his team has something here. The Warriors have some juice. The dynasty might be over, but the Warriors aren’t quite dead yet.
