Bears loss puts Matt Nagy’s play calls, timeout usage under the microscope


Something crazy happened with 4:50 to go in the first half of Monday night’s game — the Bears started to look like the Rams, ever so briefly.

On first down, Anthony Miller went in motion behind the line to the right, while Nick Foles faked a handoff to Cordarrelle Patterson to the left. He then found Allen Robinson for 14 yards.

A 14-yard gain on first down thanks in part to pre-snap motion. What a concept.

Two snaps later — coming off a 6-yard pass to Jimmy Graham and then a timeout when the offense couldn’t get lined up — came the best-designed Bears play of the night. Darnell Mooney was in motion behind the line, similar to Miller, and once again Foles faked the handoff to Patterson. This time, he rolled to his left found a wide-open Mooney in the left flat, whose route went behind the offensive line at the snap.

The rookie receiver finally had some open field to show off his speed as he ran for an 18-yard…
