The Washington Wizards will remain idle through the holiday weekend.
On Friday, the NBA confirmed that Sunday and Monday matchups between the Wizards and Cleveland Cavaliers have been postponed because the Wizards can’t dress the required league-minimum of eight available and healthy players for either game.
Previously, Washington didn’t have enough players to face the Utah Jazz on Wednesday or the Detroit Pistons on Friday due to a reported coronavirus outbreak impacting the Wizards. It’s unknown if Washington will be able to play at the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday.
The Wizards haven’t competed since a 128-107 win over the Phoenix Suns this past Monday that improved Washington to 3-8.
As noted by Ryan Young of Yahoo Sports, coronavirus-related concerns have caused the postponements of 11 NBA games in the past week and 12 total contests since the season tipped off on Dec. 22. Despite the ongoing COVID-19 crisis hovering over the Association at the halfway point of January, ESPN’s Baxter Holmes reported that team health officials, team executives and other sources believe the league won’t pause the campaign or shift teams into a bubble scenario this winter.
