Anibal Sanchez, Nationals pitcher, OK with Trump attending World Series: 'He's the president'

Nationals pitcher Anibal Sanchez said he has no issues with President Trump attending the World Series on Sunday if it goes to a fifth game.

“He’s the president of this country,” Mr. Sanchez said at Nationals Park, the New York Post reported. “If he wants to come to the game, it’s something that he wants to do. Of course everybody has to respect that situation.”

The Venezuelan immigrant was asked Thursday about how some Latino baseball players might have problems with Mr. Trump’s policies regarding immigration.

“I don’t want to attack him like I got something against [him],” Mr. Sanchez answered, The Post reported. “I’m following the president, like you say, I’m from Venezuela. I’m out of this country, but then I respect all those situations. And like I say, he’s the president, and if he want to come, why not?”

Mr. Trump said he would attend Sunday’s Game 5 between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, which currently hold a 2-0 lead in the series. If the Nationals win both Games 3 and 4, then Game 5 will not go on.

Celebrity chef Jose Andres, a frequent critic of Mr. Trump, is expected to throw out the first pitch on Sunday should the World Series stretch to a fifth game.
