Anaheim Ducks Use Emergency Backup Goalie in Final Game

With John Gibson and Anthony Stolarz out with injuries, 28-year-old Tom Hodges was called into action to finish Anaheim’s game in a 4-2 loss to Dallas.

The game was 2-2 when Hodges was called in, allowing a power-play goal against Jason Robertson before getting pulled for an extra attacker.

Hodges made two stops on three shots in the third period. Stolarz was injured late in the second and didn’t emerge for the third. Gibson started the game but left with an upper-body injury.

Hodges has appeared in a professional game before, getting into emergency action with the Allen Americans in 2017. He has acted as a backup for a handful of ECHL games in his career, including with Allen and Orlando this season, but without getting into action.
