With the two months of the year where I eat an enormous amount of food quickly approaching, I’m on the lookout for seasonal recipes that will impress my mother, and maybe even outshine some of her classic holiday treats. Although her timeless sugar cookies are hard to beat, I think I may have the leg up this jolly season with a reciple for hot cocoa bombs.

Last year, we were all about the hot cocoa bombs from Costco but for this year, TikTok user Hebah Bukhari (@bukhaaar_) has already helped make my holiday season extra jolly with this hot coco bomb tutorial that will have me setting aside the Swiss Miss. You’ll only need mini marshmallows, microwavable chocolate wafers, hot cocoa powder, and a silicone mold (Bukhari suggests looking for silicone molds on Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond, or Walmart).

To make hot cocoa bombs, simply melt the chocolate in the microwave in 10-15 second intervals, then coat the mold with the melted chocolate. Let harden, and coat a second time. Place the mold in the freezer for 10-15 minutes, then remove and push chocolate out of the mold — be careful around the rims. Fill half of them with marshmallows and a little of the coco powder.

Next, put a frypan on low heat and melt the rim of the unfilled chocolate halves for only a few seconds, enough to melt the rim — this will act as a glue to the other half. Lastly, press the melted chocolate domes to the halves filled with marshmallows and powder so they make a full sphere. You cna use some extra melted chocolate to fill any cracks or to help close the bomb, and leave to harden in the fridge.

To serve, place the bomb in warm milk or water and stir to watch the hot cocoa magic happen.
