Yohe’s 10 observations: Capitals sweep leg early, then Penguins roll to win


Following victories this season, Washington Capitals coach Peter Laviolette pays homage to the Netflix hit “Cobra Kai” by awarding victory bandanas to his finest offensive and defensive players of the game.

True to Cobra Kai form, the Capitals struck first and showed no mercy most of the game, injuring two Pittsburgh defensemen while taking a two-goal lead. They couldn’t finish the Penguins, however. Quite to the contrary.

The Penguins, despite playing the entire third period and overtime without Marcus Pettersson and Juuso Riikola, actually wore down the Capitals, then Sidney Crosby put them away in OT for a 5-4 victory at PPG Paints Arena.

“This might be one we look back on and say what a wild game it was,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. “We didn’t play all that great, but we found a way.”

That they did.
