Yankees pitcher Corey Kluber, a two-time Cy Young Award winner whose career was sidetracked by injuries in recent years, threw a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers on Wednesday in Arlington, Texas, for a 2-0 victory.
Kluber, a 35-year-old right-hander, struck out nine and allowed only a walk, to Charlie Culberson in the third inning. It was the first no-hitter by a Yankee since David Cone threw a perfect game against the Montreal Expos in 1999.
It was the sixth no-hitter of the season, coming just a day after Spencer Turnbull of the Detroit Tigers completed one against the Seattle Mariners. The record for a season in Major League Baseball is eight in 1884, though the modern-era record is seven.
The Yankees scored both their runs in the sixth inning, on a triple by Tyler Wade and a sacrifice fly by D.J. LeMahieu.
