Wolves reportedly set to sign former Golden Gopher Jordan Murphy to Exhibit 10 deal

Undrafted rookie Jordan Murphy, who has spent much of the summer working out with the Timberwolves, will sign an Exhibit 10 contract with Minnesota and be in training camp with the club, reports Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic (Twitter link).

Murphy, a 6-foot-6 forward, averaged a double-double in each of his final two years at the University of Minnesota, putting up 14.4 points and 11.0 rebounds in 36 games (31.1 minutes) in 2018-19. He is the Golden Gophers’ career leader in rebounds.

Although he wasn’t selected in the draft, Murphy caught on with his local team for Summer League play, appearing in seven games in Las Vegas with the Wolves. He averaged 8.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game.

The Timberwolves currently have 19 players under contract and have a reported agreement in place with undrafted rookie guard Tyus Battle. The team can’t exceed 20 players, so if the Wolves intend to sign Battle and Murphy, another player will have to be waived.

The Wolves have 15 players on guaranteed contracts and have filled both of their two-way contract slots, so the idea of Murphy earning a regular-season roster spot may be a long shot. Krawczynski suggests the rookie forward is a candidate to end up with the Iowa Wolves, Minnesota’s G League affiliate.
