Wizards’ Russell Westbrook breaks Oscar Robertson’s triple-double record

What was Westbrook’s most memorable triple-double moment?

David Aldridge, editor-in-chief, Washington D.C./senior NBA columnist: I’d have to go with his iconic last triple-double of the 2016-17 regular season in Denver, when he hit a 30-footer at the buzzer for the last of his 50 points, to go with 16 rebounds and 10 assists. It was the perfect ending to what would soon become a league MVP season for Westbrook, when he became the first player since Robertson in 1961-62 to average a triple-double for the season. It was his 42nd triple-double of the season — and it was magical.

How many more years can Westbrook operate at this level?

Fred Katz, Wizards beat writer: Who knows? But it’s not like he’s been struggling lately. He has 22 triple-doubles over his last 26 games. To put that in perspective, the all-time triple-double leader has been in the league for 13 seasons, and more than 12 percent of his triple-doubles have come over the last six weeks. He’s racking up 20-assist games routinely. He’s rattled off five straight 15-assist performances. Westbrook has always seemed like a guy who could fall off a cliff once he loses his athleticism. But he hasn’t, yet. And he’s still capable of dominating the game.
