When the Pelicans and Jazz met on Monday night, it was a matchup between two teams that had so much of their season dictated by long-distance shots.
Utah has surprised many by earning the league’s best record with a high-powered offense that’s currently on pace to break the single-season record for 3-pointers made by a team.
Conversely, the Pelicans have been one of the biggest disappointments, mostly due to an underachieving defense that’s on pace to give up more 3-pointers than any other team in NBA history.
So if you told Stan Van Gundy that his team was going to be outscored by 30 points behind the 3-point line in this game, he probably would’ve guessed it was going to be an uphill battle.
Well, that’s exactly what happened. Utah hit 17 3-pointers and the Pelicans only hit seven. In the end, none of it mattered.
