With Hendon Hooker back starting, Virginia Tech showed it has an offense to fear


BLACKSBURG, Va. — Virginia Tech’s coaches aren’t afraid of pushing some buttons in the week’s preparation, particularly when it comes to the offensive line’s toughness. Justin Fuente and O-line coach Vance Vice know they can prod them with biting remarks.

When NC State was the opponent, Fuente hyped defensive tackle Alim McNeill all week, to the point that Hokies center Brock Hoffman made it his mission to neutralize him. In the lead-up to Saturday’s game, it was all about Boston College’s toughness, how the Eagles didn’t do anything fancy defensively but simply played harder than their opponents — and would against the Hokies.

“It kind of pissed us off throughout the week,” Hoffman said. “And by the time we were ready to step out there, we were ready to make them seem like they were not physical. We were ready to be the physical people.”
