With Anthony Davis out, Lakers face first sustained test of their depth


LeBron James is in his 18th professional season, so he has seen pretty much everything. A championship season interrupted by an injury to a co-headliner? Yeah, he’s lived that one before.

“I had Chris Bosh go down in the first round of a playoff series,” he said Tuesday night. “I had Kyrie go down with a kneecap injury. I had Kevin Love go down with a … torn shoulder. D-Wade went down before.”

And now it’s Anthony Davis, who is missing time with a strained right calf. That’s what it’s officially being called anyway. Unofficially and more importantly, it could be termed not a torn Achilles tendon. That bit of good news came Monday with the caveat that Davis will likely be sidelined through next month’s All-Star break, if not beyond.

And so James – voice of experience, voice of reason– had these words of wisdom for a team that is trying to repeat as NBA…
