Will Hernandez tests positive for COVID-19: What are the Giants’ next steps?


EAST RUTHERFORD. N.J. – The Giants had just four offensive linemen on the field for Thursday’s practice. The other seven linemen on the roster were at home self-isolating after starting left guard Will Hernandez tested positive for COVID-19, according to sources.

The Giants were notified early Wednesday evening that the test Hernandez took Wednesday morning was positive for COVID-19. The New Jersey-based BioReference Laboratories ran Hernandez’s sample again and the positive result was confirmed late Wednesday night. It is not known if Hernandez has any symptoms.

The Giants initiated a contact tracing process and identified individuals who had been in close contact with Hernandez. That group included starting left tackle Andrew Thomas, starting center Nick Gates, starting right tackle Cameron Fleming, backup guard Shane Lemieux, backup center Spencer Pulley, practice squad guard Chad Slade, practice squad wide receiver Binjimen Victor, outside…
