TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State’s Jalen Graham this season has attempted 97 shots, nearly all within 15 feet. That’s why it’s important to note that the biggest stemmed from behind the arc. A shot Graham didn’t even make. His only 3-point attempt of the season.
On Feb. 14, the 6-foot-9 Graham took a pass in the left corner. Ten seconds remained on the shot clock. A sophomore forward, Graham didn’t have to shoot. But he did, squaring up both feet beyond the arc, bending his knees and firing, leaving his right hand hanging in the air as shooters often do. The shot was short, but it also was telling.
Graham never would have thought about taking such a shot earlier this season. His confidence would not have let him. Times have changed, and when Arizona State enters next season, this will be a significant development.
