Who, What, Where & Why: A poll of NBA insiders on how free agency will unfold


There are still three days to go before teams can officially begin negotiating with free agents. But chatter around the league indicates that the tampering period has been active as ever, with a number of deals already completed or nearly done.

The players and teams attached to those contracts remain a secret, of course, which leaves everyone except those involved speculating about dollars and destinations. Not all speculation is the same, though, which is why The Athletic went hunting for the informed version. We polled league insiders, team executives, scouts and former GMs, on 10 key questions about an offseason that could reshape the NBA’s balance of power. They were granted anonymity so that they could speak freely on topics that they may not be permitted to discuss.
