When Luka Doncic is on the floor, his team has a chance to win. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the Dallas Mavericks or, apparently, the Slovenian national team.
Doncic, 22, is the best player in the Olympic men’s basketball tournament. He averaged 27.7 points, 8.0 rebounds and 8.6 assists for the Mavs this season, but those numbers are just footnotes. He dominates games, dictates pace of play, and is virtually unguardable, thanks to that ridiculous stepback 3.
Hence, if Team USA and the Slovenians meet in the medal round in Japan, the Americans should (and will) be on notice. But if recent history has taught us anything, there are very few teams at the Olympics that USA Basketball can look past.
