The last time Slavisa Jokanovic was at Bramall Lane, Sheffield United were afforded a standing ovation.

Nothing unusual in that, of course. Chris Wilder’s side had a habit of producing performances during their swift rise from League One to the top flight that left their supporters purring with delight.

However, what set this warm ovation on a cold Tuesday night in November 2017 apart was that United had just conceded five goals.

They had scored four themselves in reply but, even so, defeat at home to a team then languishing in the bottom half of the Championship when you’re sitting second in the table does not usually elicit such a response.

This, though, was no ordinary night.

Leon Clarke and Ryan Sessegnon both netted hat-tricks amid a hugely entertaining contest against Fulham that saw United open the scoring on six minutes, only for the visitors to race into a 5-2 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
