What Landon Collins is doing to prove that he’s worth the record contract with Redskins


When Washington made Landon Collins the highest-paid safety in football, it did so with the idea he would help to improve a defense that was figured to be the team’s strength. Through the first three weeks of the season, while the defense has underperformed, Collins is proving to be worth the six-year, $84 million the Redskins have invested in him.

This week, Collins might be even more motivated to prove his worth as Washington is taking on the team that let him go, the New York Giants.

Collins’s most obvious impact has been in the running game. When he’s been rotated down into the box and ask to take an active part in run defense, Collins hasn’t been shy about getting involved.

In the first clip, Collins aligns over the tight ends stacked to the left of the offensive formation. The Eagles run an inside zone to their right, away from Collins. The Eagles don’t have enough numbers to block both Collins and secure the edge defender…
