ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals will be without prized right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks for the immediate future, the team announced Tuesday, as they placed their heat-throwing 24-year-old on the 10-day injured list with “right elbow inflammation.”

The move is especially concerning given Hicks is in his first season back since undergoing Tommy John surgery on that same elbow in 2019.

Not much is known about the severity of Hicks’ injury, as the Cardinals are awaiting second opinions from doctors on how to proceed. So far, surgery is not expected to be on the table. Treatment options include stem cell or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, both of which take a minimum of four weeks for recovery.

However, given Hicks’ previous injury history, the expectation is he could be out much longer than that.
