Tottenham Hotspur set to tie Son Heung-min down to new contract

Son Heung-Min is set to commit his long-term future to Tottenham with the forward on the cusp of signing a new long-term deal.

The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke revealed on Tuesday that the South Korean would pen new terms in the near future.

Son has starred this season along with Harry Kane. Since joining Spurs in 2015, no duo has combined for more Premier League goals than Kane and Son — and they have already scored the fifth-highest number of goals of any pairing in Premier League history.

Kalvin Phillips’ shoulder injury rules him out for six weeks

Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been ruled out for six weeks after suffering a shoulder injury in their 1-0 defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

He is now likely to miss the games against Aston Villa, Leicester, Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Everton.

It also means he will be unavailable for England’s Nations League games against Belgium and Iceland next month.

Phil Jones excluded from Manchester United’s Premier League squad

Manchester United have left Phil Jones out of their 25-man Premier League squad. He will be unable to play for United until January when the registration window reopens.

It is thought that Jones is still going through rehab after undergoing knee surgery over the summer.

Despite being used regularly in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first half-season, Jones has been left behind Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the senior centre-back queue.

Fulham’s Josh Onomah and Jean Michael Seri left out of Premier League squad selection

Josh Onomah and Jean Michael Seri are two out of four Fulham players that have missed out when Scott Parker selected his 25-man Premier League squad.

Onomah, who has been omitted due to an injury, is also joined by Kevin McDonald and Stefan Johansen and club-record signing Seri.

The omission of Seri could see him leave Fulham in the January transfer window.

David Coote dropped from refereeing duty this coming weekend

David Coote, who was the video assistant referee when Virgil van Dijk was injured by Jordan Pickford, has been dropped from refereeing duty in the Premier League this coming weekend.

It is the first time that Coote has not had a role as either a referee or the video assistant referee this season.

Instead, he will act as a fourth official.

How Virgil van Dijk can return from ACL injury

On Monday, Liverpool revealed Van Dijk had suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury due to Pickford’s tackle.

In his new column for The Athletic, Alan Shearer talks about how Van Dijk can return from the injury. Shearer had the same injury during his own playing days and said: “As soon as Jordan Pickford launched that terrible tackle on Van Dijk and connected with him, I blurted out: “Shit, he’s done his ACL there.”

“The good news is that Van Dijk will be back as good as ever, as quick and as sharp and proficient.”
