What Cole Anthony’s return means for UNC and his NBA future


Immediately in Cole Anthony’s absence since a December surgery to repair a partially torn right meniscus, the North Carolina Tar Heels went belly up. With a talent level not up to the typical standard in Chapel Hill, the Heels lost seven times in nine games to essentially push themselves out of the NCAA Tournament picture for a time. In addition, it posed a greater question in an environment that often incentivizes NBA prospects choosing not to play with their teams:

Why would Anthony, arguably the best one-and-done prospect in college this season, want to come back to this, at the risk of further injury or depreciating his draft stock?

With Anthony now likely to play against Boston College on Saturday, per Roy Williams at his Friday press conference, The Athletic put NBA draft expert Sam Vecenie and UNC beat writer Brendan Marks in a Slack channel to try to sort that out.

Marks: OK Sam, so Cole Anthony is really going to do this thing. All that speculation…
