‘What are you doing here?’ Meet the Suns fans who watched the Diamondbacks instead of Game 6


By record, the Diamondbacks and the Pirates are the two worst teams in the National League. One team is purposefully bad, the other very much accidentally so and neither exerts much magnetic force on the entertainment dollar of the average fan. Tuesday night’s matchup between the two cellar-dwellers drew an announced crowd of just 7,283 fans to Chase Field. It’d be generous to say even half of that number actually stepped foot in the building.

Especially since the upstart Phoenix Suns were facing elimination in Game 6 of the NBA Finals at the very same time. The ones who did show up presumably didn’t care all that much about basketball. Instead of watching the game in the comfort of their living rooms or in the electric atmosphere of a sports bar — Game 6 was played in Milwaukee — they’d chosen to watch two bad baseball teams.
