Westwood injury raises question again of whether he’s long-term solution in goal


The last 12 months have required discipline, drive and belief from Keiren Westwood. Above all, patience has been necessary in the wait for a return to the senior set-up at Sheffield Wednesday after spending most of 2020 in exile with the club’s under-23s squad.

Just when his Wednesday future looked to be back on track after public backing from new manager Tony Pulis at the expense of Joe Wildsmith and Cameron Dawson, it’s all change in the goalkeeping department again after a groin injury forced Westwood off in his second game since returning to the No 1 spot.

Long considered one of the Championship’s finest shot stoppers, Westwood will feel unlucky to have had to make way for Wildsmith with just 14 minutes on the clock in the 1-1 draw against Swansea on Wednesday night.
