West Ham can only sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car on a permanent deal this month

West Ham must sign £15m target Duje Caleta-Car permanently if they want to bring him to the Premier League after Marseille insist they will no longer consider a loan deal for the defender

  • West Ham have been linked with a move for Duje Caleta-Car for some time
  • They could decide to try to sign him in the final week of the transfer window
  • However, Marseille will only accept a permanent move rather than a loan switch

West Ham will have to make a permanent move in order to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car this month.

Marseille are open to letting centre back Caleta-Car leave but, heading into the final week of the window, insist they are no longer willing to sanction a loan exit for the 25-year-old.

Caleta-Car has also been linked with Newcastle, Wolves and almost joined Liverpool a year ago. He has 18 months left on his contract and is valued at around £15million by his French club.

Caleta-Car has been on West Ham’s radar for some time including last summer before they clinched the signing of Kurt Zouma from Chelsea.

The possibility of a move for Caleta-Car has resurfaced with manager David Moyes keen to bring in another centre back, as well as striker, and Angelo Ogbonna out for the rest of the season.

The Hammers are also planning to open contract talks with midfielder Tomas Soucek, who will have two years left on his deal in the summer.
