Scientists have been venturing into the depths of western Cuba’s spookiest cave, on the hunt for a very specific creature – the greater funnel-eared bat.
The animals are rare, with the last 750 living in the single cave on the peninsula of Guanahacabibes.
Experts ar the Zoological Society of London had to count the creatures, marking them in a unique way – using nail varnish. Using four different colours, the unusual manicure allows scientists to mark the bats harmlessly.
