WATCH: Billionaire Elon Musk Reveals How Video Games Should Influence the Future of Education – EssentiallySports

Apart from the fact that he is financially exemplary, Elon Musk is extremely popular for his weird opinions about stuff. For example, his thoughts on how we may be living in a video game have stirred a lot of, well, laughs and whatnot. However, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO seemed to have spoken some sense once when he thought that our education system should be more like a ‘video game’.

Elon Musk is currently the richest man on the planet and the CEO of four successful companies, SpaceX, Tesla, The Boring Company, and Nueralink. His accomplishments heavily support his competence. However, most of his comments on the internet aren’t known to be formal, as is usually expected of a man of his stature.

At the SXSW Live 2013 event, Elon Musk made a very valuable comment on what he thinks our education system should be like. Although comparing education to a ‘video game’ may sound like one of Musk’s antic comments at the first judgment, it actually makes a lot of sense.

Elon Musk says our education system should be more interactive, like a video game

In the “Elon Musk Keynote” panel held on March 9, 2013, a member from the audience tweeted him a question as a part of the #AskMusk initiative via Twitter. “You’ve disrupted major industries. What would you do if you had a free reign on education?” the user asked.

As usual, Musk had his own way of answering a fan. “Generally you want education to be like as close to a video game as possible… like a good video game,” Musk said. “Like you do not need to tell your kid to play video games, they will play video games on autopilot all day. So, if you can make it interactive and engaging then, then you can make education far more compelling and far easier to do.” Musk further elaborated.

While he does have a point, Musk’s description of what education should be like is far from what could be adapted in real. Yes, our education system could really use some gamification. But the amount of modifications needed to put that idea into large-scale use is a lot.

Then again, his point of making education more interactive sounds very interesting and it is definitely a good idea. With the pandemic hitting our planet hard and our education system discovering “online” as a part, it has become easier to monitor and teach students via tools like video games.

Musk’s love for video games knows no bounds

Elon Musk has always heavily endorsed video games as a part of our lives. According to reports of his own, he is a huge fan of Minecraft, and very recently, Elden Ring. Musk’s love for video games goes back to his childhood when he created a video game, Blaster. He even sold the code to a computer magazine for a sum of money.

While Elon Musk continues to entertain us, his idea of making the education system more interactive still remains a dream. It would be interesting to see if studying for school (or college) ever becomes fun and addictive like playing Minecraft, or any video game, as a matter of fact.
