Washington’s ‘blue-collar, hard workers’ outclass Arizona in dominant win


SEATTLE — Julius Irvin watched Arizona receivers catch two touchdown passes against him Saturday night. Those late scores did nothing to alter the outcome of Washington’s 44-27 victory — it was 37-0 after three quarters, and the Wildcats never had a chance — but nevertheless affixed a somewhat unpleasant coda to this stellar evening.

Irvin wasn’t done when the blowout ended, though. He shed his pads and jersey and joined fellow defensive backs Kamren Fabiculanan and Asa Turner back beneath the Husky Stadium lights for a series of drills, working on coverage techniques while their teammates celebrated the high point, so far, of the Jimmy Lake era.

It’s a short schedule. Reps are limited. If you believe this season means something — and the Huskies certainly do — then there really can’t be such a thing as garbage time, can there?
