Washington Football Team QB Ryan Fitzpatrick could be out multiple weeks with hip injury

One week into the 2021 NFL season and things aren’t looking so good for the Washington Football Team.

In addition to starting off the season with a loss, Washington could also be without starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick for multiple weeks following an injury he sustained during Sunday’s 20-16 defeat at the hands of the L.A. Chargers.

Fitzpatrick sustained the injury in the second quarter on Sunday and had to exit the game. The 38-year-old was questionable to return before being ruled out for the remainder of the game, reportedly due to a hip injury.

Regardless of the recovery timeline, it looks like Fitzpatrick will miss significant time, and Washington will have to think fast to fill in the QB role just one week into the season.

Backup Taylor Heinicke stepped in for Fitzpatrick on Sunday, completing 11-of-15 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. According to, Washington is going to give Heinicke and QB3 option Kyle Allen the opportunity to fill in the role before looking outside the team for help under center.
