The Golden State Warriors’ 2019-20 campaign has been a complete train wreck, and obviously much of the mess can be attributed to a roster decimated by injury.
Just when it was thought it could not possibly get any worse, now comes word that the Warriors will scarcely be able to field a working lineup for Friday’s game against the Utah Jazz.
As shared on Twitter by Eric Walden, Jazz reporter for The Salt Lake Tribune, the injury-decimated Warriors will likely be down eight players when they take the court at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
Many names on the list, such as Stephen Curry (left hand fracture, out for a minimum of several months) and Klay Thompson (knee, likely out for entire season), obviously do not come as a surprise. But the extent to which the Warriors are a fielding a roster that is the very definition of the walking wounded is stunning.
The only question mark for Friday’s game is Draymond Green, whose listed as questionable with a bum heel and soreness. The forward played in Tuesday’s 114-95 win over the Memphis Grizzlies but sat out Wednesday’s awful 142-94 shellacking at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks.
Things seemingly will continue to get uglier for the Warriors in the short term before there’s any chance for a rebound, which with the team an NBA-worst 3-13, will likely come far too late amid an already-lost season.
To say the Warriors’ sudden stupefying fall from grace is among the most shocking stories of the early NBA season would be an understatement. And as Walden notes in the tweet, it will be interesting to see how the Warriors manage to patch together a lineup for Friday night.
