Warner Brothers Fires Back at Ruby Rose's Batwoman Set Allegations

Ruby Rose has fired off a slew of alarming accusations against Warner Brothers, alleging abusive and unsafe working conditions on the set of Batwoman, the CW show she abruptly departed in May 2020. The studio shot back Thursday morning forcibly denying the claims, as Deadline reports.

The Australian model and actor shared an incendiary series of Instagram posts Wednesday, including claims that former studio head Peter Roth pressured her to return to work 10 days after back surgery, telling her she would otherwise cost the production millions of dollars and cause the whole cast and crew to be fired.

“Enough is enough,” Rose wrote. “I’m going to tell the whole world what really happened on that set. I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again. And so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you.”

Rose further claimed the production fostered unsafe working conditions. The star said they witnessed crew members sustain serious injuries on set, including third-degree burns, and another that left a production assistant “quadriplegic” and unable to walk.

There were also claims of inappropriate, and admittedly bizarre, behavior by Roth, whom Rose alleged forced young women to steam his pants around the crotch while he was still wearing them. She also alleged that Dougray Scott, who played her father in the series, was abusive toward women on set.

Warner Brothers has issued a strong denial of Rose’s claims, calling them “revisionist history.” In a statement Thursday, the studio said “the truth is that Warner Bros. Television had decided not to exercise its option to engage Ruby for season two of Batwoman based on multiple complaints about workplace behavior” on Rose’s part, which “were extensively reviewed and handled privately out of respect for all concerned.”

Scott also refuted Rose’s claims of his abusive behavior against women, calling the accusations “defamatory and damaging” and “entirely made up.”

When the former Batwoman star announced her sudden departure from the series in May 2020, the move came as a shock. Rose had led a successful first season, and the superhero soap had already been renewed for a second. Rose revealed that August that a back injury was partly to blame, in addition to an overall reassessment of her priorities in the wake of the pandemic.

“I DID NOT QUIT,” Rose insisted Wednesday. “They ruined Kate Kane and they destroyed Batwoman, not me. I followed orders,” they wrote.

“It’s time for me to take my life back and to breathe again after all these years.”
