German auto-making giant Volkswagen seems to add a new electric vehicle to its lineup every month, but you’ll want to be sitting down to hear about its latest EV.
Because it’s an office chair.
A literal EV office chair.
Despite already crossing the threshold of a 500,000 EV annual run rate, a full year ahead of schedule, Volkswagen’s latest EV is designed to never leave the office.
Or the home office.
Or anywhere else you want to show it off.
Volkswagen has developed a chair with a built-in battery and motor that can whip along at up to 20km/h (12mph), which seems to be faster than you’d need to get from the keyboard to the coffee machine.
It also has a range of 12km (eight miles), which seems to be a bit extravagant and feels like about a week’s worth of range for most office layouts.
And, unlike every other Volkswagen EV, this one has been developed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ office in the EV hub of Norway.
Because reasons.
It’s supposed to reflect what Volkswagen is doing with its commercial EVs, like the ID.Buzz, so it has actual driver-assistance features, LED lights, a three-point seat belt and an infotainment setup, too.
The heated office chair is embossed in a round VW logo, with five four-inch alloy rims, though it’s only two-wheel drive.
It’s boot is only big enough for a laptop, so it actually has a trailer hitch in case you want to bring a filing cabinet full of documents with you to your next meeting.
